I am a muralist and a Realtor in San Antonio, Texas, so I consider myself an independent contractor. I usually do small street art murals & I normally charge around $500-$2000 for them. I was just recently asked to create a larger mural for a National Park. The budget is around 26k for the work, but I don't know how to go about getting a W9 to be able to accept payment and make sure I pay my taxes? When I was doing smaller murals my tax person just filled out a 'Schedule C Profit & Loss From Business' form for me. I'm so lost and I need a W9 to get any form of payment to start the project.
