In 1961, Flip Schulke (Sports Illustrated) captured an up-and-coming black boxer submerged in one of the few desegregated pools in America at a hotel in Overtown. The hotel was torn down to make way for i-95. This became one of the most iconic photos in sports history as 19-year-old named Cassius Clay, trained in a pool because βthe water resistance acts just like weightβ. The rest is history.
